A group of words that makes a complete sense is a sentence.

  • A sentence that makes a statement or assertion is called a Declarative or Assertive sentence.It simply passes on information. Assertive sentences are either affirmative or negative.
    ex:-1.The boy stared at the piece of chocolate.
    2.Henry sat in the car.
    3.Peter did not like the book.

  • A sentence that asks a question is called an Interrogative sentence.
    ex:-1.Do you like ghost stories?
    2.What kind of stories do you like?

  • A sentence that expresses a command, instruction,advice or request is called an Imperative sentence.
    1.Put this notice on the notice board.
    2.Do not waste your time playing video games.
    3.Keep off the main road.

  • A sentence that expresses strong feeling is called an exclamatory sentence.
    ex:- 1.I am really going to miss this town!
    2.That birthday cake was so good!
    3.How well he listens!
    4.I’m so mad right now!
    5.You’re such a liar!
